FAQ

  • What is natural beef?

We sell young castrated male calves (steers), usually less than two years old. They have been grass-fed, then finished on plant based proteins with no steroids, hormones or antibiotics given at any time in their lives.

  • How are cows/calves raised?

Calves are raised with their mothers on 1260 acres of grass pasture until they are weaned. The males are castrated within a few months of their birth. All our livestock are given recommended vaccinations and pest control. After weaning, many remain with the same herd until they are selected for feeding out as beef stock.

  • How are the steers fed?

Those selected are removed to a separate pasture and fed all natural plant based proteins, alfalfa and grass, supplemented with vitamins and minerals, to create flavorful, lean beef with just the right amount of marbling.

  • Is it humane?

Our cattle are cared for by the ranch owner/operators on our family-run ranch. They remain with other cattle until they are taken from the ranch to the processor. This is always in small batches, never in cramped commercial transport. We choose small local processors who harvest and process the meat all in one location, typically on the same day that the cattle arrive.

  • How is beef sold?

The average weight of finished a finished steer is 1300 lbs, but this can vary based on breeding, finishing and management of the animal. The cattle are weighed after harvesting and we sell based upon the “hanging weight,” which is typically about 62% of the live weight. The sale price will depend on the actual weight. We pay all costs directly, so this is your total charge.

  • How many pounds of beef can I expect?

After the beef hangs for two to three weeks, it will be custom processed and packaged. About 21% of the hanging weight is removed in this process, leaving approximately 319 lbs of packaged meat from one half share of beef averaging 1300 lbs live weight.

  • How large of a freezer do I need?

The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 – 40 pounds of packaged meat. A half beef needs about 8 cubic feet of freezer space.

  • What is the process to purchase?

We take deposits on our beef prior to cattle leaving the ranch and only process what is sold. We require $50 nonrefundable deposit on beef purchases and the balance will be paid, based on the total hanging weight of the steer and the delivery location, when your beef is delivered. You will have this information approximately 2 weeks before delivery and all payments must be made prior to or at delivery.

Before the steer is taken for processing, you will complete a form telling us how you want the beef cut and packaged. Beef is delivered frozen and packaged according to your specifications.

Currently beef is only delivered in the local OKC metro area. We are unable to store undelivered beef, so you must be prepared to take possession of your beef when it is ready.
